Quarter Street takes you back to the heart of classic salsa.
Quarter Street takes you back to the heart of classic salsa. Inspired by the passion of salsa luminaries such as Eddie Palmieri, Ray Barreto and Hector Lavoe, and emphasizing the raw sounds of New York in the 1970’s, The Quarter Street revisit an era where the music of the streets resonated with the voice of the people.
Formed in early 2011, The Quarter Street combines the fresh energy of a newly created band with the skills of well known established musicians. A dynamic live band with a driving rhythm section and all-trombone horn section, this young vibrant group of talented musicians are quickly making a splash in the Melbourne music scene.

Los Mas Altos formed in 2007 playing the more rock side of latin america. They are favourites in the younger latin scene due to their vibrant and hard hitting shows and hits. They perform classic spanish rock anthems that have moved a generation. There is no one quite like this outfit in Australia and they call Melbourne home.

Mariachi Los Románticos play Mexican folk and pop music
The Salvadorian directors of Mariachi Los Románticos left El Salvador in 1987 , searching for a better life. On arrival to our shores, brothers Willíam and Julio with their father José, began to recreate their musical identity and play the Mariachi music of their homeland. Their songs embody the essence of México, telling stories of yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Formed in 2004 by multi-faceted, multi-instrumentalist/composer Argentinian/Australian, award winning artist Abraham Dunovits, who now lives and works in Melbourne, Funkalleros have been playing locally at selected venues such as Open Studio, but the band shines in open air festivals. Abe was born in Argentina and grew up in Spain, soaking up the music as he went along, studying in the local “tablaos” where flamenco music was played in Madrid and going to see rock concerts at night. He has lived and worked in Australia since 1989. He is a somewhat musical virtuoso on string instruments but self-taught.
The aim of Funkalleros is not only to create original music from the heart that has resonance in the Australian multi-ethnic community, sending a message of love, hope and understanding for people of all races and countries, but also to make people move and have a good time. From the modern to the traditional, Funkalleros travel the uncharted musical waters of Alt-Latin music.

Formed by a mixture of both Venezuelan and local amateur musicians, with various degrees of formation within the music industry and wanting to share their passion for Venezuelan folklore music, the groups forte is their performance of joyful rhythms with string instruments, percussion and voices. Some of those rhythms may be accompanied by dancing performances by the Venezuelan dance group ‘Caribay’ which takes the whole musical experience to another level.

At the same time, they appreciate the differences and similarities that reside within traditional Latin-American music.
